The hypergraphic portraits
1967. The hypergraphic portraits. The first of them is the actor Jean-Paul Belmondo, done in the context of the Paris Biennial of 1967. It is based on borrowed and invented sign, adopted according to their esthetic and formal value, comparable to hypergraphic backgrounds already seen in previous creations, in particular in the series of stained glass. But in contrast to them and the classic concentric composition used to produce a resemblance, he opts for a vertical syntax, more capable of production the desired analogy. The hypergraphic elements here take the place of shadows and restore the figurative forms in a particularly identifying formal coherence.
