The glued letters
1970. First Glued Letters. This series of meca-esthetic pictures is constituted of a narrative profusion of alphabetical letters stuck on the canvas, in various arrangements, testing thus, according to their arrangement or their dispersion, an original facet of their artistic possibilities.
During the same period, Alain Satié created a series of pictures, a variant of the preceding one, in which he withdrew the glued letters leaving only their ghost, and also alongside these impressions the sequels of their dissolved material, the illusion of their essence materialized by the effects that they could produce on their environment, by their passage in time, that is, their recognizable projection in space. Thus is born the duality presence-absence, therefore perception of this thing that was, but is suddenly nonexistent.
