The artist's studio walls

In 1974, Alain Satié completed his series of The artist's studio walls. The purified representation of the central motif without signs is the result of a previously mentioned esthetic path, in a extension of his wood cut outs. The overlapping Latin writing in the background denotes a wall on which curving spray painted Lettrist slogans aoear announcing future projects : The idea of spray painting graffittti in New-York City which had not yet been tried in 1974. It does not mater who inspired whom, but the parallels between this artist's spray painting and the graffiti which have rampaged in New-York since 1976 cannot be overlooked.
